NOW® Betaine Hydrochloride is designed to support proper digestive conditions in the stomach. Hydrochloric acid (hydrochloride) is normally produced in the stomach, where it promotes the digestion of proteins by activating pepsin, helps maintain a healthy balance of intestinal flora, and stimulates the release of intestinal enzymes. Pepsin is a protease produced in the stomach that partially breaks down protein in foods. Production of hydrochloride tends to decrease with age, so supplementing with hydrochloride and pepsin may help maintain normal digestion. This product uses a vegetarian acid-stable protease with activity equivalent to that of animal-derived pepsin.

Directions for use
Take 1 capsule at the beginning of each meal. Do not take on an empty stomach. Do not take if you have a stomach or duodenal ulcer.
