Thiamine (vitamin B1) is a water-soluble vitamin that supports glucose metabolism as well as normal growth and development. Natural Factors’ BioCoenzymated formula contains a special combination of benfotiamine and thiamine diphosphate, which are coenzyme forms of vitamin B1. Taking benfotiamine and thiamine diphosphate promotes better absorption and bioavailability compared to non-coenzyme preparations. Benfotiamine is fat-soluble, which allows it to penetrate cell membranes. In addition, it stimulates transketolase, an enzyme necessary to support normal glucose metabolic pathways. What does “coenzyme” mean?

For B vitamins to be used effectively by the body, they must be converted into metabolically active coenzyme forms. For example, two coenzyme forms of thiamine are benfotiamine and sulbutiamine.

A coenzyme is a natural compound that combines with specific enzymes to promote a number of beneficial metabolic reactions in the body. Without a coenzyme, the enzyme cannot promote the biochemical reaction responsible for our survival. This dual cooperation between coenzyme and enzyme is a process called “coenzymated”.

Taking B vitamins already in coenzyme forms allows the body to use them directly. As a result, the body needs a smaller amount of these vitamins to obtain the same benefits.
