Function and use of citrulline:

CITRULLINE is an endogenous amino acid that does not build proteins and is formed in the human body from ornithine. Citrulline naturally occurs in foods such as watermelons. Adequate availability of citrulline is necessary for the proper course of the urea cycle, and its efficient course allows for the elimination of the by-product of amino acid metabolism – ammonia, which is of additional importance in high-protein diets.

Citrulline is also a precursor of arginine, an amino acid from which nitric oxide is produced, as well as a metabolite of the changes that occur with its participation. Thus, its potential and applicability in supplements are quite broad.
