What is L-carnitine?

L-carnitine is a vitamin-like substance with a physiologically important role, naturally occurring in animal-derived products and synthesized in the human body from the amino acids lysine and methionine. It is present mainly in muscle tissue and the heart, as well as in nervous tissue.
