Riboflavin, also known as vitamin B2, plays a key role in activating and converting other B vitamins. For example, it is necessary for activating vitamin B6, converting tryptophan into niacin, and converting folate into its various active forms. Riboflavin also plays a crucial role in the metabolism of fat and glucose, the synthesis of red blood cells, and the production and regulation of certain hormones.

Like many other B vitamins, riboflavin must be converted into its active form — riboflavin 5'-phosphate* (R5P) — so that it can be used by the body. Since riboflavin absorption occurs in the upper gastrointestinal tract, an impaired digestive system can negatively affect the body's ability to convert riboflavin into R5P. In addition, certain prescription medications can interfere with the proper absorption of riboflavin and the elimination of its stores from the body.

Directions for use
