What is Super R-Lipoic Acid?

The sodium salt of R-lipoic acid used in our supplement is the biologically active form of R-lipoic acid in the body.

R-lipoic acid is an effective antioxidant. In the body, R-lipoic acid helps maintain mitochondrial health, cellular energy, and protects against oxidative stress.

Biological activity of R-lipoic acid

Alpha-lipoic acid, a universal antioxidant, consists of two different forms, “R” and “S”, which have different properties. The “R” form is the biologically active component (natural to the body) responsible for the phenomenal antioxidant effect of lipoic acid. The “S” form does not have the same degree of biological activity. Alpha-lipoic acid supplements usually consist of the “R” and “S” forms in a 50/50 ratio. This means that a supplement with 100 mg of alpha-lipoic acid usually provides 50 mg of the biologically active R form.

The human body normally produces and uses the “R” form of lipoic acid. Our product contains only the biologically active “R” form in the amount of 240 mg per serving!
